Ideas for 150 hot dogs?

Main Post:

My wife brought home a bag of ~150 hot dogs from her day care / school. It seems they ordered way too many and no school again until a week from Monday.

Any suggestions for what to do with them? I hate to toss them.

I thought about trying to cook them all en mass and driving around to give to homeless and anyone else who wants free dogs on the 4th, but I’m broke as hell and practically homeless myself - I don’t know what I would store them in while driving around, and then getting buns and condiments, etc. I priced it out to ~$70 to get buns and condiments and little containers and paper plates and napkins. If I had a way of mass cooking them easily, then I might give it a shot. Of course, I’m incredibly shy and have a really hard time going up to strangers and starting conversation, but I could work up the nerve if needed. I was thinking my daughter could come with and she would learn about giving back - maybe start a 4th of July tradition.

Or, should I just freeze them and use for fishing bait or dog snacks or something down the road?

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Top Comment: If it's just the meat and not the bread with the meat, then just freeze most of them to be used as you go along. Immediately, you can use them in whatever cooking you want. Toss them sliced up into a stir fry or fried rice. Toss them into a batch of chili. Stir them sliced into your favourite pasta sauce or mac and cheese. Hot dogs are versatile as hell. Use them as meat in an omlette or scrambled eggs and hash. You can also pan fry the slices and toss them into salads, as you would bacon.

What are the best hot dogs??

Main Post: What are the best hot dogs??

Top Comment: You know what, the boring, untoasted bun, regular hot dogs you get at a little league game, a street corner, a snack bar at an ice skating rink. Something off a roller device. I don't remember the elevated dogs I've had, just the trash, and that's ok. Hotdogs are trash, and that's not a bad thing. We deserve it. We deserve a hot dog wrapped in tinfoil at a ballgame that was probably cooked 4 hours ago. We deserve an airfried hotdog at 4am because we are too high to use the stove. The best hotdog is the one that presents itself when you need it.

Hot dogs just aren't that good

Main Post:

Hot dogs are genuinely bad. They don't taste good. It's just a ton of sh*t packed into a hard pink smoothie. I've tried them boiled, off a street vendor, heck I've even microwaved them. They just don't taste good, and I think everybody is overestimating how good they are because they think they have to. Hot dogs should be put in their place at a 4-6 (on a good day) food.

Top Comment: You are missing out. Hot dogs cooked on the grill with a crispy edge to them is absolutely delicious Or a nice Chicago dog from Portillos. YUM!

Processed meat can cause health issues, even in tiny amounts. Eating just one hot dog a day increased type 2 diabetes risk by 11%. It also raised the risk of colorectal cancer by 7%. According to the researcher, there may be no such thing as a “safe amount” of processed meat consumption.

Hot dogs: cheap and versatile protein or horrible for you?

Main Post:

I love hot dogs. I could eat 1 every day. Maybe it’s because I am originally from Manhattan... but apparently they are bad for you. Like only 1-2 a year bad for you. I am currently in need of saving money so I turn to hot dog. It’s great with an egg for breakfast. Just a classic dog with bun mustard and sauerkraut for lunch, and a hot dog with baked beans for dinner. See what I mean? And that is just the beginning. Serve with can green beans and potatoes, infinite topping combinations from around the world, fry it up with some potatoes and onions. even just cold right out of the pack for a snack. So will I die or will I live if I eat a hot dog every day in these times of desperation?

Top Comment: eating hot dogs every day is definitely bad for you – hot dogs are insanely processed and have tons of sodium on top of saturated fats from the meat byproducts used to make them. If you need to find a cheap and easy meat item to use w versatility, opt for a rotisserie chicken or something less processed where you can control the nutritional value a bit more.

Top Comment: I think about them all the time. Sleep on a bed of hot dogs every Tuesday. Dress my wife up as a hot dog and make sweet love to her at least once a week.
