We’ve been pairing hot dogs with cocktails. Here are 3 builds we launched — would love your take.

Main Post:

This started as a goofy backyard experiment between friends, and now it’s gotten out of hand

Each hot dog has a matching cocktail using Iconic Cocktail Co mixers.

Here’s what we’ve been running with lately:

  1. The Lexington Cut – kraut mustard, balsamic onion jam, crispy onions, dill. Paired with bourbon + cascara vanilla + a touch of onion jam.
    1. The Harlem line: 2 oz bourbon, .75 oz Iconic cascara vanilla, 1/2 barspoon balsamic onion jam. Mix all in a mixing glass with ice. Stir well, double strain.
  2. The Devil’s Tail – jalapeño cheddar brat, Thai guava jam, roasted garlic aioli, cheddar crisps, chilis. Paired with tequila + bourbon + guava jam + spiced honey + lime.
    1. Venom & Velvet: 1.25 oz tequila blanco, .75 oz bourbon, 1 tbsp thai guava jam, 0.5 oz lime juice, 0.5 oz Iconic spiced honey, 2 oz soda water. Shake hard and fine strain into a tall glass over ice, top with soda.
  3. Champagne Blues – champagne garlic honey mustard, blueberry bourbon pecan jam, pretzels, blueberries. Paired with tequila + sunshine sour + blueberry pecan jam + lemon.
    1. Adios, Darling: 2 oz tequila, 1 oz Iconic sunshine sour, 1 oz blueberry bourbon jam, .5 oz lemon juice, 2 oz soda. Shake hard and fine strain, top with soda.

We know hot dogs + cocktails isn’t exactly classic... but it’s been fun to build pairings that actually work together.

Curious what this sub thinks:Which pairing would you actually try?Any spirits/ingredients you’d play with that we missed?

Keep in mind we box these up and ship them nationally so our party cocktails were much more intricate...

Top Comment: id try all these, damn. the hotdogs look and sound great too. could you share how you make some of the ingredients? (such as the different jams, unless they are called that already and you bought them... and tbh i dont know what cascara vanilla is, or what sunshine sour is, etc)

New York style hotdogs - how to?

Main Post:

Hello my dear New York Americans! I love to make theme days, the next one will be with the theme "detectives". I would love to make a new York styled hot dog how you can get it on a little stand on the go in new York city. I don't trust German recipe websites from Germans for Germans and would like to learn about THE authentic new York hot dog.

What do you out on your wiener?

Top Comment: I take it you are referring to the NY dirty water dog. there is this recipe from epicurious this one from eatouteatwell this one from Ryan Farr via Serious Eats (but this one is a wee bit special) have fun!

Where is the best Hot Dog in DC?

Main Post:

Around this time last year I threw a post up in this community searching for the Best Burger in DC. I got so many great suggestions and spent 2024 searching for the best. Turns out it’s Hill East Burger. This year I am back, hungry for more. Any recommendations for the best Hot Dog in DC would be greatly appreciated. So far top of my list is Ivy and Coney - highly recommend if you haven’t tried it, or the bar itself. Cheers and Happy New Year!

Top Comment: Ivy and coney has good ones, Lyman’s tavern, blaguard. If you expand to half smokes that list changes a lot of course

What is the Best Hot Dog

Top Comment: Tony's Cable Car Restaurant on Geary or Top Dog on Shattuck in Berkeley. You can't beat the price at Costco on 10th Street in San Francisco.

What are the best hot dogs??

Main Post: What are the best hot dogs??

Top Comment: You know what, the boring, untoasted bun, regular hot dogs you get at a little league game, a street corner, a snack bar at an ice skating rink. Something off a roller device. I don't remember the elevated dogs I've had, just the trash, and that's ok. Hotdogs are trash, and that's not a bad thing. We deserve it. We deserve a hot dog wrapped in tinfoil at a ballgame that was probably cooked 4 hours ago. We deserve an airfried hotdog at 4am because we are too high to use the stove. The best hotdog is the one that presents itself when you need it.

Let’s never forget the simple beauty of a grilled hot dog, OK?

Best hot dogs I ever ate.

Main Post:

When I was 20-something and completely broke, I moved down south to a small town an hour outside of New Orleans at the suggestion af an old Army buddy, and fell in with a sketchy crowd. They introduced me to the Circle K, the holy grail of convenience stores (back then). We were all working minimum wage jobs and barely had two cents to rub together, so you leanred to stretch your money any way you could.

They had much more experience with the Circle K than I, and showed me the Hot Dog trick. The trick was to go to the hot dog roller tray, stuff a dog into the bun, Immediately stuff a second dog on top of the first while the clerk wasn't looking, skip the mustard/onions/relish tray, and head straight for the chili/cheese machine. Then you'd douse your dog in so much chili and cheese it was impossible to see what what underneath. You'd get double hot dog for 1 hot dog price. Kind of important when you were living check to check.

I/we did this for months until one of the local Circle K clerks showed up at one of our parties. In a drubken moment of repentance/confession, I told him what we had been doing while he was busy behind the counter. His response? *"Yeah, I know, dumbass. As long as you don't shoplift the beer, I don't give a shit."

  • It never occured to me that he knew what we were doing all along and just didn't care.

I've had many many Hot dogs (and other meals) since then, but those Circle K 'double-dogs' remain some of the best meals i ever ate. There were some days when that was my only sustenance. I am literally a millionaire now, having socked away most of my earnings into Mutual Funds, but I still get a hot dog at the Circle K whenever I pass by one. No, I don't stuff a second dog in the bun anymore.

Top Comment: A similar, although not my own story about gas station dog-discovery. My sister moved out to St. Louis for grad school. She loved it there. In fact, her favorite place to eat? QT. We ain't got them in the nasty natty, we have our chili parlors. After my sister moved out there with the help of friends (my parents/family are several states away), my parents went out to see her apartment, eat, see the town, etc. They asked her if it would be ok if they took her to her favorite place to eat. Outback? Ruby Tuesdays? Applebees? God love my sister, she took them to her food Mecca as a starving graduate student, QT. For a gas station dog.

Good hot dogs?

Main Post:

Where do you guys go for hot dogs around LA? Obviously I get one at the carts outside of games and concerts but both of my favorites (Vicious Dogs and Meea's) didn't survive the COVID business culling and Pink's is Not Good.

Top Comment: Someone on r/LosAngeles went on a year-long hot dog crawl and rated all the dogs they ate. Here's a link to their last update.
